Welcome to From the Rowhouse blog. I’m Kate, founder of Rowhouse Plants and fellow plant enthusiast. I'm a scientist by training, and I began collecting houseplants in 2018. Over the years, I’ve grown a wide variety of plants, experimented with different growing methods, learned from plenty of successes and failures, and developed an ever-growing curiosity about how plants grow and thrive.

From the Rowhouse is a place for me to share that curiosity with you, from plant care and propagation, experimentation, and lessons learned along the way. Whether you’re new to houseplants or have a collection that has long since outgrown your windowsills, I hope you’ll find something here that encourages you to try something new and enjoy your plants just a little bit more.

The Story Behind the Name

Rowhouse Plants is a nod to my humble home in Philadelphia—a traditional brick rowhouse that has grown into quite the jungle over the years. What began as a simple hobby of collecting and caring for houseplants gradually became a desire to share my love of plants with others and ultimately inspired me to launch Rowhouse Plants. I’ve always enjoyed propagating plants, but I found even more satisfaction in connecting with fellow growers and giving them access to interesting plants they could add to their own collections. The name felt like a natural reflection of where it all started: right here, in the rowhouse.

Our Philosophy

At Rowhouse Plants, our philosophy is simple: stay curious, keep learning, and enjoy the process. I believe in curating a plant collection that inspires you, whether that means beautifying your space, experimenting with new growing methods, seeking out that one plant you’ve had on your wishlist, or simply enjoying the satisfaction of watching something grow. There’s no single right way to enjoy plants, and your collection should reflect what brings you joy.

In the shop, you’ll find a curated selection of plants propagated and grown from my personal collection, with plant care supplies and accessories to come as we grow.
